The Scanner Does Not Scan
You See a Windows Communication Error Message
Using Windows XP or 2000 Professional with a USB 2.0 connection, the scanner may stop scanning and you may see this message:
"Cannot properly communicate with the scanner. Make sure the scanner is on, properly connected, and properly set up to scan. If using a SCSI connection, restart your computer."
If you see this message, follow these steps to install a patch file on your system:

Make sure the scanner is connected to your computer correctly and the scanner is turned on. Close any open programs on your system.

Insert the scanner software CD in the CD-ROM drive. If the installer starts automatically, click Exit.

Do one of the following:

Open the u2patch folder and double-click esuf52e.exe to install the patch.
|
|
After the patch is installed, disconnect the USB cable from your computer and then reconnect it to the same port.

If you change the USB ports, you must install the patch again.

The Scanner is Not Recognized by Your System
First check your connection to the scanner and computer:

Right-click the My Computer icon and click Properties. (On Windows XP, click Start, then right-click My Computer and click Properties.)

Do one of the following:

Scroll down and click Universal Serial Bus controllers.
|
If a USB Universal Host Controller and USB Root Hub are listed, Windows supports USB.
|
Try scanning again. If your scanner still is not recognized, contact your dealer or a qualified servicer for assistance.

Pressing a Scanner Button Does Not Start the Correct Program
Windows XP: Click the Events tab in your scanner's Properties window and make sure Take no action is not selected. Also, make sure the desired button is selected in the Select an event list box, and Start this program is selected.
For Windows Me, 98, and 2000 users:
Click the Events tab in your scanner’s Properties window and make sure the Disable device events check box is not checked. Also, make sure the desired button is selected in the Scanner events list box, and the desired application in the Send to this application list is selected.
