Pressing the  Start button on the scanner starts EPSON File Manager by default.

Assigning a project to the Start button

You can assign a desired project to the  Start button in the EPSON File Manager window.
To assign a project in the EPSON File Manager window to the  Start button on the scanner, follow the steps below.

Double-click the EPSON File Manager icon on the desktop or press the  Start button on the scanner.

You can also start the EPSON File Manager in the way below.

For Windows users:
Click Start, point to All Programs (Windows XP) or Programs (Windows Me, 98 SE, or 2000) and then EPSON Creativity Suite, then click EPSON File Manager.

For Mac OS X users:
Double-click the Applications folder in Macintosh HD, double-click the EPSON folder, the Creativity Suite folder, then the File Manager folder. Finally, double-click the EPSON File Manager for X icon.

Note for Windows users:
If the following dialog box appears, select EPSON Creativity Suite and then click OK.

Click the Start Button Setting button in the EPSON File Manager window.

Select the project you want to assign to the scanner's  Start button. EPSON recommends selecting the application you use most often.

Project

Description

Scan and Save

Pressing the  Start button on the scanner starts the EPSON Scan, and then Scan and Save appears.

Copy Center

Pressing the  Start button on the scanner, starts the Copy Utility.

Copy to Fax

Pressing the  Start button on the scanner, starts the Copy Utility.

Scan to E-mail

Pressing the  Start button on the scanner, starts the EPSON Scan, and then Send file Via E-mail appears.

Scan to Web

Pressing the  Start button on the scanner, starts the EPSON Scan, and then EPSON Scan To Web appears.

View

Pressing the  Start button on the scanner, starts the EPSON File Manager.

The selected project is assigned to the  Start button, and the assigned project opens automatically when you press the  Start button on the scanner.

Assigning a different application to the Start button on Windows®

You can assign any application, other than EPSON File Manager, which supports the Scanner events (for example, Imaging for Windows, as long as it is installed) on Windows to the  Start button on the scanner.

Make sure the application supports the Scanner events and then follow the steps.

Note for Mac OS X users:
You cannot assign any application other than EPSON File Manager to the  Start button on the scanner.

For Windows XP users

Click the Scanners and Cameras icon in Control Panel.

Right-click your scanner's icon and select Properties.

Select the Events tab.

Select a desired button from the Select an event list. Select Start this program and then select the desired application from the list.

Note:
  • If Prompt for which program to run is selected, when the button is pressed, a dialog box appears to prompt you to select an application from the list.
  • Some applications do not support linkage to scanners and digital cameras. Linkage is available only for applications which appear on the list.

To save your settings, click Apply and then OK.

Note:
You need to click Apply whenever you change a button setting.

If you need to disable the Scanner events, select Take no action in the scanner's Properties dialog box.

For Windows Me, 98 SE, and 2000 users

Note for Windows 98 SE and 2000 users:
Screen shot for Windows Me is used in this section, so they may differ in appearance from what actually appears on your screen. The instructions are the same.

Click Start, point to Settings, and select Control Panel.

Double-click the Scanners and Cameras icon.

For Windows Me users:
Right-click your scanner's icon and select Properties.

For Windows 98 SE and 2000 users:
Select your scanner from the installed scanners and cameras list. Click Properties.

Select the Events tab.

Select a desired button from the Scanner events list and then select the check box of the desired application in the Send to this application list; clear the rest of the check boxes.

Note:
  • If multiple applications are selected, when the button is pressed, a dialog box appears to prompt you to select just one from the list.
  • Some applications do not support linkage to scanners and digital cameras. Linkage is available only with the applications that appear in the Send to this application list.

To save your settings, click Apply and then OK.

Note:
You need to click Apply whenever you change a button setting.

If you need to disable the Scanner events, select the Disable device events check box in the scanner's Properties dialog box.
