Transporting the Printer

If you need to transport your printer, carefully prepare and repack it as described below using the original box (or a similar box that the printer fits snugly into) and packing materials. Follow the steps below.

Warning:
Be careful when you handle the used ink cartridges, as there may be some ink around the ink supply port. If ink gets on your skin, wash the area thoroughly with soap and water. If ink gets into your eyes, flush them immediately with water. If discomfort or vision problems continue after a thorough flushing, see a doctor immediately.

Caution:
  • When storing or transporting the printer, do not tilt it, stand it up vertically, or turn it upside down. Otherwise, ink may leak because of shock or vibration.
  • When you transport the printer, remove all ink cartridges from the printer. Otherwise, ink may leak because of shock or vibration.

Plug in the printer, then turn on the printer.

Press the ink button. The print head moves to the ink cartridge replacement position, and the power light begins to flash.

Caution:
Do not move or force the print head by hand, as this may damage the printer. Always press the ink button to move the print head.

Note:
Do not press the ink button over three seconds; otherwise, the printer starts cleaning the print head.

Open the printer cover, then open the cartridge cover.

To remove all ink cartridges, pinch the sides of each ink cartridge, then lift each cartridge out of the printer.

Close the cartridge cover, then close the printer cover.

Press the ink button. The print head returns to the home position.

Turn off the printer, then unplug the printer.

Disconnect the interface cable from the printer.

Remove the paper from the sheet feeder and remove the paper support.

Open the printer cover again. Secure the ink cartridge holder to the printer with tape as shown below, then close the printer cover.

Raise the output tray.

Attach the protective materials to both sides of the printer.

Repack the printer and power cord in the original box.

Keep the printer level during transport.

Be sure to remove the tape from the printer before using it again.
