can I install the CUPS version of a driver ?
Please confirm that CUPS is installed, before you
install the CUPS version of a driver. If not, please download it from
http://www.cups.org and install it.
1) How to install a rpm file
Please run the rpm command as below.
rpm -i pips740-cups-2.6.2-1.i386.rpm
Some distribution may cause an error, but it could be avoided to run the
following command.
rpm -i --nodeps pips740-cups-2.6.2-1.i386.rpm
2) Setting after installation
Please set the settings of CUPS to use Photo Image Print System, before
you first print out.
[ Restart CUPS ]
Please restart CUPS to get the installed filter enabled.

kill -HUP `pidof cupsd`
[ Add a printer ]
·By command
Please run the following command.
/usr/sbin/lpadmin -p pm740c -E -v ekplp:/var/ekpd/ekplp0 -m ekpm740c.ppd
(Explanation about options)
p Specify printer name
E Enable the printer
v Specify a driver to use and a direction for output
m Specify a setting file(PPD)

CUPS provides a CGI for setting with which users can set up the settings
of printer on browser.
Please do the follow procedure.
(1) Connect a CUPS server (Port:631) from a browser.
(example)
In case that CUPS is on local host, a user need to connect "http://localhost:631/"
(2) Select "Manage Printers"
(3) Select "Add Printer"
(4) Specify a printer name in "Name" field and then select "Continue"
(Note: Other fields are not required.)
(5) Specify "EPSON Inkjet Printer #1 (Photo Image Print System)"
in "Device" field and then select "Continue".
(6) Specify “EPSON" in "Make" field and then select
“Continue"
(7) Specify "EPSON PM-740C , Photo Image Print System (en)"
in "Model" field and then select "Continue".
At this point, the installation of the printer should
be completed.
