If you want to scan document directly, for example, scan to OCR, you can set it as a default program in Smart Panel.

After setting EPSON SMART PANEL as the target application for your scanner, you can select the program to launch when the Scan Button on your scanner is pressed. To set the target application, open EPSON SMART PANEL and choose Scan to OCR from the box at the lower left corner of the panel.

You also need to do the following settings on Windows.
1. Click the Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. From the Control Panel window, select the scanner and camera icon.
2. From the Scanner and Camera Properties dialog box, select the desired scanner and then click Properties.
3. Select "Scan Button" from the Scanner events list. The applications that support the Scan Button feature will then be displayed in the Send to this application field.
4. Select EPSON SMART PANEL.
5. Click OK.

Next time when you want to use scan to OCR quickly; you only need to press the scan button on the scanner. The solution will run with minimum or no prompting.
