Wi-Fi Direct

The printer has a Wi-Fi Direct function that allows you to create a wireless environment without an access point (Peer-to-Peer connection).
Note:
This feature is not available for all printers or the feature may not be enabled.
The following two connection methods are available.
Modes are selected automatically according to your printer network environment. For more details on using Wi-Fi Direct, click the following link. This feature is not available for all printers.

Simple AP mode

If your printer is not connected to any available networks, the printer enters Simple AP mode and then connects to your device by using a device that has the Wi-Fi Direct function. In Simple AP mode, the printer acts as an access point.
When the printer is connected in Simple mode, (Wi-Fi Direct Simple AP mode icon) is displayed at the upper-left of the printer's Home screen.
The connection specifications are as follows:
Number of concurrent connections: 4
Security: WPA2-PSK (AES)
Standard: 802.11g
Note:
The Simple AP mode does not provide a communication function between devices that are connected to the printer using this feature.
If you want to release Simple AP mode, select Disable Wi-Fi on the Wi-Fi Setup menu on the printer's control panel.
If you cannot connect to the printer because the maximum number of connectable devices has been exceeded, disconnect one of the devices from your printer. If you do not know which devices are currently connected, you can disconnect all devices from your printer by changing the passphrase from the printer's control panel. Note that this will disconnect all devices. To reconnect a device that was disconnected using this procedure, make network settings again.
When printing from an Android device using Wi-Fi Direct Simple AP mode, use the latest version of Epson iPrint.

Wi-Fi Direct mode

If your printer is already connected to an available network, the printer enters Wi-Fi Direct mode and then connects to your device. To establish a Wi-Fi Direct connection, your device needs to be equipped with the Wi-Fi Direct function and it needs to be able to communicate with the printer.
When the printer is connected in Wi-Fi Direct mode, (the Wi-Fi Direct mode icon) is displayed at the upper-left of the printer's Home screen.
The connection specifications are as follows:
Number of concurrent connections: 1
Security: WPA2-PSK (AES)
Standard: 802.11g
Note:
While a network is connected using Wi-Fi Direct, any other network connections are disconnected. As a result, Epson Connect and other functions to access the printer using the Internet are disabled too.
When the printer is connected with Wi-Fi Direct mode, printer firmware update is not available.
If you want to release connection, disconnect the printer with your device. The printer reconnects previous network.
